New Year Poem 2014

“Aurora’s Year”

The swell of newness

Fills like a new dawn

And spirals out and away as life stretches through each day

New rises like an Aurora,

Who may sleep through her dreams

Or puncture them,

Or even face the cold stone face of death,

But even in these fates there is beauty and there may be magic.

Bright and sharp as a briar rose,

The dawn shows ways to care

And ensures us surprises, both royal and small.

For life congregates like a ball, every so often,

And others come together round you, from far and wide

And all we may do is smile or pass the time dreaming,

But we know these friends as we don’t know our fates,

And we taste these magics of games, lights, and fun,

As the colors and shapes of our wishes keep changing.

These storied times when newness meets old,

Keep us spinning round and get our stories told.

We’re free to walk in dreams and know futures that may or may not come to pass,

To put old cares to sleep and reunite our true loves,

To replace the steps and trod no more spindles,

But spin us the wheel and breathe in the life it kindles.

So christen this day, with its precious gift

And let no one deny you any change you can lift,

For any dance in this year can bring you to joy, so long as you step into the dawn and you try.

Power and Surrender – Friday’s Lunar Eclipse in Aries

I am so glad I found this post-it explains so much about my recent feelings and troubles! Now I can release this energy into the world and do something with it, knowing that it’s pulling along the same strands as the cosmic energy.

virgo magic

aries lunar eclipseFriday’s Lunar Eclipse is a super-charged Full Moon – lots of emotional energy, a cooker pressure kind of feeling, and the contents of the subconscious rising into awareness (hello, shadow material). This energy has been building since the power-packed Libra New Moon on October 4, and comes to culmination over the next few days.

Eclipses take us on a journey through darkness, which, successfully navigated, serves as a portal, a birth canal, into a new reality. At a Lunar Eclipse, the light of the Full Moon is temporarily darkened by the Earth’s shadow, a resetting of consciousness. This process is typically uncomfortable (understatement!) and requires some degree of surrender and a hell of a lot of TRUST. In the dark, we have to rely on how we feel rather than what we see, on our inner guidance rather than having something tangible to hold onto “out there.”

Goddess Cerridwen Rune

In honor of Goddess Cerridwen (journeyingtothegoddess.wordpress.com/2012/07/03/goddess-cerridwen/), I have created a bindrune.  This rune will not only help one communicate with and honor the goddess, but should strengthen all of her aspects in life, inviting in inspiration, creativity, poetry, prosperity, the ability to transform and adapt, and the wisdom to face shadows and changes with the desire to chase down what you need.  Placing it in a special container when you wish for a particular aspect or communion with the goddess will be a sign of good faith, that you are stirring your intuitive and magical energies and are ready to face what happens when the goddess’s magic and messages manifest.

Cerridwenrune

The runes in this bindrune are the letters of Cerridwen’s name (with one ‘e’ Ehwaz and the other Eiwaz).

This rune is designed to emulate the wisdom and creativity potion Cerridwen created with her cauldron and intended for her son.  The up and down line in Nied is expanded on to act as the spoon which stirs the goddess’s magic labors.  I used the color yellow to simulate the grains and herbs Cerridwen is lady of and used in her potion.  I added a crow as this magical bird also belongs to Cerridwen as well as being a carrier of messages between us and our spirit allies.  All glory to the goddess!

I have also celebrated her today with eating grains and bacon.  Perhaps my favorite thing though, is that in the Disney picture-a-day calendar I have for the year, the picture that turned up on Cerridwen’s day is the magical cauldron from “Black Cauldron.”  So I am also staring at that and feeling pleasure in the small things the goddess can provide inspiration through.  Happy and inspirational shapeshifting days to you!

The Hekatean Prayer and Ritual Book: Call for Submissions

Feral Druidry: The Crossroads Companion

Since doing Hoofprints in the Wildwood, I’ve been wanting to do a devotional for Hekate. However, there are so many Devotionals out there for her already most notably by Avalonia and B.A. So I’ve decided not to do a devotional proper, but rather a Hekatean Prayer and Ritual book, which I think there is much need for. This will be a book of prayers and rituals only, with images for meditational use. The idea being something you can take with you, read some prayers out of in either ritual or just thumb through reading prayers and looking at artwork on the fly for inspiration. The focus of this book is really prayer and ritual, so there will be no essays or poetry or the normal fare you would see in a standard devotional. I personally think something like this would be a boon to the community, not only to help new…

New Year Snake Affirmations

As we enter the Year of the Snake…

-Snakes undulate.

They never move in straight lines.  Snakes are constantly shifting, forever changing their direction and taking in both sides, and it does not hinder them from swiftly reaching their endpoint.  Hence, even if it feels like I am constantly changing course, readjusting decisions, and discovering things I thought were side items not related to my main goals, it does not mean I have lost my path.  It means I am flexible, that I have the capacity to evolve, and that I am seeing a wider picture.  Most importantly, it does not mean that I will reach my endpoint any slower, just that I can reach it richer.

-Snakes connect.

Their bodies press against the ground they slither over, the item they coil around, into the air when they rise.  It does not have a specific body part like feet to take on the job of connecting it to the outside world most of the time, snakes feel that connection with their entire body.  This year would be a good time to feed connections, to grow in mindfulness, and to welcome intense feelings.

-Snakes warn.

Whether it’s rattling, hissing, or spreading their hoods, snakes signal when they are about to attack.  Even when under direct threat, they take a moment to express themselves and to give this respect to others.  Listen for that space of opportunity to retreat from negative situations and take a moment for expression when needed.

-Snakes coil.

Snakes can see and feel all sides of something through their ability to encircle it.  Many snakes react to problems by literally embracing them, wrapping them up until that issue has no space to cause problems, irrational thoughts, fears, or pretend that it’s something bigger than what it really is.  At that moment, the problem can be killed.  Don’t run from problems, be strong enough to just coil.

-Snakes shed.

Snakes shed their skin and leave the one that didn’t fit properly behind.  If something doesn’t fit into your life right now, it doesn’t mean it was wrong to include it, or it’s a sign of failure, or that you need hold on.  It can be shed.

-Snakes poison.

Snake venom carries a lot of power.  Enough power to cross the greatest boundary of all: between life and death.  If used correctly, this power inside can propel past any boundary line, even if it seems so surmountable that to cross it would seem like an entirely different life.  It might be scarier than poison, but boundaries are crossable.  It’s the Year of the Snake.

Happy Chinese New Year, everyone!

Snakes are the beings who know boundaries best. They can wrap around others, around themselves, defend the barriers they wish, and twist through and out of any lines that could be blurred. The power to transform and heal boundaries can give anyone the power to pursue what they truly want in life. May this look into the history of snake teaching and symbolism be the beginning of many journeys to power and freedom.

Mommy Mystic

“If the account given in Genesis is really true, ought we not, after all, to thank this serpent? He was the first schoolmaster, the first advocate of learning, the first enemy of ignorance, the first to whisper in human ears the sacred word liberty.”

Robert Green Ingersoll

In honor of the Year of the Snake, which will arrive with Chinese and Tibetan New Year on February 10th, I decided to explore the snake as a symbol across cultures and history, just as I did with the dragon last year. If you’d like to read some of the predictions for the Year of the Snake based in the Chinese and Tibetan astrology systems, I wrote a bit on that over at Bellaonline.com. This post is more of a free-form exploration of the snake and the serpent as a symbol.  Symbols speak to us beyond words, on a…

Musical Tension

I had a strange experience last night.  I was undergoing a lot of stress and my body was tossing and turning.  Then, in a natural, unconscious motion like a stretch, my arms went moved-one went straight  up over me as I lay sideways.  The other went out in front of me, but crooked, so the my hand and fingers were bent back over the space created between the arms.  My fingers began strumming, as if there were strings in that space to be plucked, and as they moved my vocal chords hummed different notes-higher close to my chest and lower farther away.  I tried to stop humming as my jaw’s been sore recently, and could not-my vocals continued to respond only to my arms in particular and the rest of my tense body in general.  Then I just sank into it and allowed my physical self to act out its stresses through this musical movement.  It was a highly strange, therapeutic sensation that is not recreated when I put myself back into that same position.

I’m aware that bodies often play large roles in any life stress.  I’ve also heard of musical healing and therapy.  However, last night still seems like quite a strange incident, especially as I do not play the harp, and have not played any other instrument for rather a long time.  I wondered if anyone had any similar experiences, thoughts, or perhaps are aware of any spiritual presences that might manifest themselves in such a way.
