New Year Poem 2014

“Aurora’s Year”

The swell of newness

Fills like a new dawn

And spirals out and away as life stretches through each day

New rises like an Aurora,

Who may sleep through her dreams

Or puncture them,

Or even face the cold stone face of death,

But even in these fates there is beauty and there may be magic.

Bright and sharp as a briar rose,

The dawn shows ways to care

And ensures us surprises, both royal and small.

For life congregates like a ball, every so often,

And others come together round you, from far and wide

And all we may do is smile or pass the time dreaming,

But we know these friends as we don’t know our fates,

And we taste these magics of games, lights, and fun,

As the colors and shapes of our wishes keep changing.

These storied times when newness meets old,

Keep us spinning round and get our stories told.

We’re free to walk in dreams and know futures that may or may not come to pass,

To put old cares to sleep and reunite our true loves,

To replace the steps and trod no more spindles,

But spin us the wheel and breathe in the life it kindles.

So christen this day, with its precious gift

And let no one deny you any change you can lift,

For any dance in this year can bring you to joy, so long as you step into the dawn and you try.

Keeping Up Faculties Rune

This rune is intended to prevent and aid with mental deterioration such as forgetfulness, dementia, etc.  It is also useful for strengthening and preventing loss of basic physical faculties such as vision, hearing, and basic energy.  Helps prevents accidents.

mental health

This rune includes (in white):

Os: This rune calls on the universe’s knowledge of this person’s essence and their place in the world to keep that person within their personality and within awareness of who and what surrounds them.

Stan: To draw the person to their personal cornerstone and keep them their own person when threatened by accident or illness.

Othala: To prevent personality-changing or significant physical-accident energies at bay and keep the person safely aware of themselves and who they are.

Ehwaz: To strengthen and guide the person’s spirit through its obstacles and keep it in touch with allies, real and spiritual.

Berkana: To nurture the person’s strength, spiritual and physical, and help them grow older in harmony with change, but without loss of essence.

Raidho: To enable quick reflexes, quick thinking, and quick protection against anything that would threaten significant deterioration, while still carrying that person safely down the path they are meant to follow.

Algiz: To protect, to prevent, and to lead in the right direction.

Tyr: To lead the person to an aware finish, protect from deterioration, and strengthen all natural abilities.

Eiwaz: To enhance health, keep the person’s strength where it will be of the most use, and keep damaging accidents or illness fluid enough that the person’s essential strength will be able to fight it.

This rune has a straight vertical line with no topper, like an antenna, to focus its energies on the person for whom you are making it.  To direct and focus the rune, write the person’s name (in runes or otherwise) across the top.  In my example, these are the yellow runes.

Goddess Cerridwen Rune

In honor of Goddess Cerridwen (journeyingtothegoddess.wordpress.com/2012/07/03/goddess-cerridwen/), I have created a bindrune.  This rune will not only help one communicate with and honor the goddess, but should strengthen all of her aspects in life, inviting in inspiration, creativity, poetry, prosperity, the ability to transform and adapt, and the wisdom to face shadows and changes with the desire to chase down what you need.  Placing it in a special container when you wish for a particular aspect or communion with the goddess will be a sign of good faith, that you are stirring your intuitive and magical energies and are ready to face what happens when the goddess’s magic and messages manifest.

Cerridwenrune

The runes in this bindrune are the letters of Cerridwen’s name (with one ‘e’ Ehwaz and the other Eiwaz).

This rune is designed to emulate the wisdom and creativity potion Cerridwen created with her cauldron and intended for her son.  The up and down line in Nied is expanded on to act as the spoon which stirs the goddess’s magic labors.  I used the color yellow to simulate the grains and herbs Cerridwen is lady of and used in her potion.  I added a crow as this magical bird also belongs to Cerridwen as well as being a carrier of messages between us and our spirit allies.  All glory to the goddess!

I have also celebrated her today with eating grains and bacon.  Perhaps my favorite thing though, is that in the Disney picture-a-day calendar I have for the year, the picture that turned up on Cerridwen’s day is the magical cauldron from “Black Cauldron.”  So I am also staring at that and feeling pleasure in the small things the goddess can provide inspiration through.  Happy and inspirational shapeshifting days to you!

When Positive Thinking Isn’t Helpful

http://mommymystic.wordpress.com/2013/07/03/when-positive-thinking-isnt-helpful/

"We've all got both LIGHT and DARK inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on, that's who we really are." - Sirius Black (Harry Potter)

“We’ve all got both LIGHT and DARK inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on, that’s who we really are.” – Sirius Black (Harry Potter)

“I try so hard to stay positive and be grateful, but I just keep falling into these despairing thoughts. I know this is why I keep getting sick.”

I recently heard this from someone I was working privately with and it really broke my heart. This is a woman who has worked for many years in therapy to overcome feelings of unworthiness and shame stemming from having been sexually abused as a child. She has made great strides, and has been exploring energy work as a way to continue and deepen her healing. Her journey has led her to many valuable teachings that have helped her to shift her thoughts towards the positive, and to manifest more love and beauty in her life.”

—————————-

-I think this is a very pertinent idea and one that Cerridwen’s (http://journeyingtothegoddess.wordpress.com/2012/07/03/goddess-cerridwen/) story expresses well. When her plan to take control and inject something positive into an area of her life goes awry, what does she do? She doesn’t scream or despair or give up, she chases those reasons down-not to harm them, but to ingest them and rebirth them as something glorious.

Surgery Bindrune

This bindrune is designed for protection during procedures where a physical alteration is intended-lasik and appendectomies, for example.  This rune will promote overall health and protect the rest of your body from unintended alterations.  It will also encourage acceptance and ease in adjusting to your body’s new state.  It will help prevent complications and quicken healing.  Note: this rune is designed for operations performed at a point where the body is not at a critical stage.  I do not recommend it for operations where someone is already in a life-threatening state.  That would require a stronger bind.

This bind includes:

Chalc-To invite the desired changes and cleanly, easily join those shifts to the rest of your body, making it easy to grow used to and full of positive energy to prevent complications and promote healing.

Algiz-To protect your body from risks and complications.

Berkana-To promote healing, nurture you during the process, and enable you to more easily adjust.

Eiwaz-To keep your body strong and prevent unwanted change.  To keep your healing process balanced and positive physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Dagaz-To fill those necessary physical changes with positive power and let it give you the most energy and life-quality.

Fehu-To refine the operation to the best materials and the best people qualified for the job.  To encourage your body to treat this only as a gain, in spite of having undergone an ordeal and possibly lost something.

Hagalaz-To make the process quick and clean, with no negative side effects.

Kennaz-To help the changed or new parts of your body join and work easily with the rest of it.

Ur-To help those performing the operation know exactly where to focus and where to cut, etc.  To focus the healing process on the parts that are most important without weakening the rest of your body in any way.

Othala-To protect you from anything negative and strengthen you physically, spiritually, and mentally to take charge and live as fully as you can in your new state.

My Patch

Written in honor of the White Shell Woman (http://journeyingtothegoddess.wordpress.com/2012/03/12/white-shell-woman/) in thanks for her protection, her powerful blanket imagery, and her magic in everyday dreams and aspirations.

“My Patch”

There’s a patch where I am found;

Dreams wrapped safely all around

Where I can see strength stretch far as the sea

And promise is nothing but the air around me

As simple as that-a breath in, warmth out

All the birds call what can be

Sweetness seams bright color about,

Ensconced, still, closed-can be free.

Patches float in winds and gales,

Snow and rain drench my place into scales.

The weight of the world is heavy to heft,

And it’s hard to hold to worn pieces left.

As simple as that-tear in, wear out

All the whispers chant all’s not what it was

Mending’s sharp work, through hearts and out,

Moving, flowing, with a too-thin because.

Resting, color seeps back in with hope,

In cracks called sleep, beauty, and scope-

With pens, with words, with notes and tears,

An answer tucks itself around tired fears.

As simple as that-balm in, bleed out

All limbs know when healing to heed

Life is strange work, always on a new route

Finding, loving, holding-so much to need.

There’s a patch I know is mine,

Even when it becomes hard to find.

A place that still answers to my heart,

Although new lines score across every part.

As simple as that-me in, patch out

Closer than cloaks and warmer than wool,

Patchwork protects my hope from my doubt

Hoping, believing, patches life full.

There’s a patch where I am found;

Dreams wrapped safely all around

Where I can see strength stretch far as the sea

And promise is nothing but the air around me

As simple as that, breath in-warmth out,

And the future can turn into what I would be,

With love to grow and dreams to sprout,

We’ll undo the  seam between my patch and me.

Ior “Spinning in the Wheel” poem

“Spinning in the Wheel”

Thumbelina’s rest and home inside a shell,

The orb that knows woman’s same as swan,

The warriors of legend that shun death at a bell,

The maid who left mer with fins and singing gone,

All learn that boundaries can be crossed,

All know that lines are real

Enough to give reward only when something’s lost,

But its space isn’t empty, but hung like a wheel

With spokes of what the journey teaches,

With yarn think of the secrets you steal

When bending the story your step over reaches,

With blood you’ve spent now ready to heal,

That spinning wheel binds you to one place,

But its twining threads whisper that fates do blend,

There’s a ring spinning where all worlds are one space,

Where wild chases are still and violent passions do mend,

Where inside’s just nature with a shut door,

Where mirrors show present, future, and past,

Where desire is enough and fulfillment no more,

Where the Round Table seats no first or last,

Where Pied Piper’s children found their families in the stone,

Where land and water mingle, separate yet as one,

Where even Peter Pan can give a love full-grown,

And the ever-spinning Fates know ever’s the same as done.

This magic forging apart to same,

This living freedom bears a name.

Circling the earth, it still touches the core,

Strums to harmony, stirs fruition galore,

True fairy tale transformation is bound to lithe Ior.
