New Year Poem 2014

“Aurora’s Year”

The swell of newness

Fills like a new dawn

And spirals out and away as life stretches through each day

New rises like an Aurora,

Who may sleep through her dreams

Or puncture them,

Or even face the cold stone face of death,

But even in these fates there is beauty and there may be magic.

Bright and sharp as a briar rose,

The dawn shows ways to care

And ensures us surprises, both royal and small.

For life congregates like a ball, every so often,

And others come together round you, from far and wide

And all we may do is smile or pass the time dreaming,

But we know these friends as we don’t know our fates,

And we taste these magics of games, lights, and fun,

As the colors and shapes of our wishes keep changing.

These storied times when newness meets old,

Keep us spinning round and get our stories told.

We’re free to walk in dreams and know futures that may or may not come to pass,

To put old cares to sleep and reunite our true loves,

To replace the steps and trod no more spindles,

But spin us the wheel and breathe in the life it kindles.

So christen this day, with its precious gift

And let no one deny you any change you can lift,

For any dance in this year can bring you to joy, so long as you step into the dawn and you try.

Goddess Cerridwen Rune

In honor of Goddess Cerridwen (journeyingtothegoddess.wordpress.com/2012/07/03/goddess-cerridwen/), I have created a bindrune.  This rune will not only help one communicate with and honor the goddess, but should strengthen all of her aspects in life, inviting in inspiration, creativity, poetry, prosperity, the ability to transform and adapt, and the wisdom to face shadows and changes with the desire to chase down what you need.  Placing it in a special container when you wish for a particular aspect or communion with the goddess will be a sign of good faith, that you are stirring your intuitive and magical energies and are ready to face what happens when the goddess’s magic and messages manifest.

Cerridwenrune

The runes in this bindrune are the letters of Cerridwen’s name (with one ‘e’ Ehwaz and the other Eiwaz).

This rune is designed to emulate the wisdom and creativity potion Cerridwen created with her cauldron and intended for her son.  The up and down line in Nied is expanded on to act as the spoon which stirs the goddess’s magic labors.  I used the color yellow to simulate the grains and herbs Cerridwen is lady of and used in her potion.  I added a crow as this magical bird also belongs to Cerridwen as well as being a carrier of messages between us and our spirit allies.  All glory to the goddess!

I have also celebrated her today with eating grains and bacon.  Perhaps my favorite thing though, is that in the Disney picture-a-day calendar I have for the year, the picture that turned up on Cerridwen’s day is the magical cauldron from “Black Cauldron.”  So I am also staring at that and feeling pleasure in the small things the goddess can provide inspiration through.  Happy and inspirational shapeshifting days to you!

When Positive Thinking Isn’t Helpful

http://mommymystic.wordpress.com/2013/07/03/when-positive-thinking-isnt-helpful/

"We've all got both LIGHT and DARK inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on, that's who we really are." - Sirius Black (Harry Potter)

“We’ve all got both LIGHT and DARK inside of us. What matters is the part we choose to act on, that’s who we really are.” – Sirius Black (Harry Potter)

“I try so hard to stay positive and be grateful, but I just keep falling into these despairing thoughts. I know this is why I keep getting sick.”

I recently heard this from someone I was working privately with and it really broke my heart. This is a woman who has worked for many years in therapy to overcome feelings of unworthiness and shame stemming from having been sexually abused as a child. She has made great strides, and has been exploring energy work as a way to continue and deepen her healing. Her journey has led her to many valuable teachings that have helped her to shift her thoughts towards the positive, and to manifest more love and beauty in her life.”

-I think this is a very pertinent idea and one that Cerridwen’s (http://journeyingtothegoddess.wordpress.com/2012/07/03/goddess-cerridwen/) story expresses well. When her plan to take control and inject something positive into an area of her life goes awry, what does she do? She doesn’t scream or despair or give up, she chases those reasons down-not to harm them, but to ingest them and rebirth them as something glorious.

Tarot Deal Meditation Poem 2

When shuffling and dealing the tarot cards for myself I often find that I’m composing a poem in my head.  I find it a very grounding exercise and a soothing invitation to meditation and intuition:

One for the water that draws me here.

One for the earth that I hold dear.

One for the fires that refine fear.

One for the air whose winds must steer.

New Year Snake Affirmations

As we enter the Year of the Snake…

-Snakes undulate.

They never move in straight lines.  Snakes are constantly shifting, forever changing their direction and taking in both sides, and it does not hinder them from swiftly reaching their endpoint.  Hence, even if it feels like I am constantly changing course, readjusting decisions, and discovering things I thought were side items not related to my main goals, it does not mean I have lost my path.  It means I am flexible, that I have the capacity to evolve, and that I am seeing a wider picture.  Most importantly, it does not mean that I will reach my endpoint any slower, just that I can reach it richer.

-Snakes connect.

Their bodies press against the ground they slither over, the item they coil around, into the air when they rise.  It does not have a specific body part like feet to take on the job of connecting it to the outside world most of the time, snakes feel that connection with their entire body.  This year would be a good time to feed connections, to grow in mindfulness, and to welcome intense feelings.

-Snakes warn.

Whether it’s rattling, hissing, or spreading their hoods, snakes signal when they are about to attack.  Even when under direct threat, they take a moment to express themselves and to give this respect to others.  Listen for that space of opportunity to retreat from negative situations and take a moment for expression when needed.

-Snakes coil.

Snakes can see and feel all sides of something through their ability to encircle it.  Many snakes react to problems by literally embracing them, wrapping them up until that issue has no space to cause problems, irrational thoughts, fears, or pretend that it’s something bigger than what it really is.  At that moment, the problem can be killed.  Don’t run from problems, be strong enough to just coil.

-Snakes shed.

Snakes shed their skin and leave the one that didn’t fit properly behind.  If something doesn’t fit into your life right now, it doesn’t mean it was wrong to include it, or it’s a sign of failure, or that you need hold on.  It can be shed.

-Snakes poison.

Snake venom carries a lot of power.  Enough power to cross the greatest boundary of all: between life and death.  If used correctly, this power inside can propel past any boundary line, even if it seems so surmountable that to cross it would seem like an entirely different life.  It might be scarier than poison, but boundaries are crossable.  It’s the Year of the Snake.

Happy Chinese New Year, everyone!

Newness for the New Year

“Newness”

Now what’s two has become one,

the tide returns with naught undone-

The past year joins the future now

without a seam or stop, it’s just how

the next year unrolls-beneath your feet,

not before or dazzling, but complete.

Feel the opportunities tickling between toes.

Feel the fertile bends that Fates’ time grows.

Every step moves off the path, through only air-

But every footfall rebinds and rebirths life there.

As the days turn, remember fresh, sweet, true:

there’s always a newness in this old world-you.

Tarot Deal Meditation Poem

When shuffling and dealing the tarot cards for myself I often find that I’m composing a poem in my head.  I find that it helps keep me grounded and focused, particularly when I’m about to do a reading that I’m anxious about.  It just really helps me to stay removed from my mundane thoughts about the question and slip into the meditative, intuitive side of my mind that can read the tarot spread without letting it get tangled up in my hopes and fears of what the spread will say.

Today’s tarot deal meditation poem ran thusly:

One for the ground that’s always around,

One for the air, that mysterious stair,

One for the water, as it whispers one another,

One for the fire as towards truth it spires,

And one for me upon this day-

Please bless my read of this array.

I also often find that the form my meditation poem took adds to the reading of the cards themselves.  That was the case today-my earth/pentacle card was a reminder that I already have all my resources.  My air/swords card spoke of inspiration and connection coming from my spiritual, higher sources.  My water/cups card spoke of a multitude of influences and directions.  My fire/wands card made clear a realization I had begun to suspect.  And the card representing me did indeed come as a token of blessing.

Does anyone else find that they use rhymes or other meditation techniques to aid with tarot reading for themselves without emotional tangles?
